1979 S+S PERFORMANCE SILVER SAXON TURBO

Set på Ebay den 13. maj 2010.

This is one of the most rarest bikes in the world.!

This motorcycle was first built around 1976 by the British tuning company 'S+S Performance' in Stanstead Abbots, Ware. After gaining manufacturing rights, this was their very own prototype/research & development bike that was to be the base for the production of their flagship model, the 'Silver Saxon'. Unfortunately, the company only ever manufactured nine 'production' Silver Saxon bikes before going bankrupt in December 1979.
This prototype was sold to the British heavy metal rock group 'Saxon', just before the company closed their doors for good. Saxon used it as their stage prop for their 'Strong Arm Of The Law' tour in 1980, riding on and off the stage. When the tour was over, the bike was mothballed, still unregistered with only 1180 miles on the clock.

After purchasing it in 2006, an 18 month sympathetic restoration was carried out (all documented) and the bike has performed faultlessly so far. It draws crowds wherever it goes and is always the center of attention at shows.

Chassis: Rickman CR bright nickel plated frame & swing arm, 38mm Betor forks, Hagon ‘classic’ rear shocks, AP Lockheed Racing calipers & master cylinders all round, Ronal wheels, Pirelli Demon Sport tyres.

Engine: Kawasaki Z1 based S+S engine, fully welded ‘pork chop’ crank, bored to 1105cc with extra thick liners, Russ Collins forged turbo pistons, piano wired liners, HD cylinder studs & nuts, S+S ported cylinder head, enlarged exhaust valves, S+S turbo profile cams on adjustable sprockets, full EGLI deep sump, MTC lock-up clutch, ignition system via a modified advancer, Dyna S ignition pack, MSD leads and ND plugs.

Turbocharger system: Rajay 370 F40A turbocharger, ported by S+S, has an exceedingly rare A-flow (race) turbine wheel (very aggressive), just rebuilt with new seals and gaskets! ATP inlet manifold, boost gauge, wastegate and ‘Spyder’ header. All pipework bright nickel plated. Mikuni HSR42 carburettor. S+S silencer (removable baffle).

Bodywork: All Rickman CR equipment. Sale will include both single seat and dual seat bodywork! Both tanks have their own twin fast flow taps, and both tailpieces have their own real lamp and No. plate bracket, so the bike can be changed from a single seat set-up to a dual seat set-up within minutes with the minimum of fuss.

Condition: The overall condition is absolutely immaculate and faultless.

This historic bike has only covered 3807 genuine miles in over 30 years. Every single component on the bike and in the engine has been inspected, refurbished and refitted where possible to keep its S+S originality. Obviously certain parts have been replaced, like the brake hoses, ALL rubber seals, tubes & tyres, brake pads, chain & sprockets etc.

Features: This Silver Saxon has been awarded a raft of awards over the last two years, including Stafford, Uttoxeter and Donington.

It has also appeared in the following publications, should you wish to read up on them for research:-

Streetfighters No.174, August 2008 – 4 page feature
Motor Cycle News, Nov 5th 2008 – 2 page feature for ‘Modern Classics’
Classis Bike, Jan 2009 – Classic Bike Of The Year feature
Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics, May 2009 – Part 1, a 6 page feature on S+S Performance and the Silver Saxon
Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics, June 2009 – Part 2, a 5 page feature on this Silver Saxon including road test
The Café Racer Phenomenon (Those were the days) by Veloce Publishing 2009

The bike performs faultlessly in terms of both performance and handling. Approximate power output; 190bhp @ 9psi (road use), 225bhp @ 12psi (fast road) and 300+bhp @ 25psi (race on avgas fuel).

It also has an agreed valuation, and is also cheap to fully insure on a classic policy with no problems.

I have absolutely stacks and stacks of history that will be sold along with the bike, including genuine authentication from two ex S+S Performance directors, Mike Cazalet and Russell Savory.

This bike would be ideal for a collector, as it’s so rare and literally irreplaceable.

No test rides will be offered. The bike is show standard immaculate and faultless in every way.

If you are seriously interested then please CALL me on either 01270 780659 (weekends & evenings) or 07955 302181 any other time to agree a viewing time.
