Hjælp med importering af min MC fra US {{forumTopicSubject}}

Hi everyone...

*First, sorry for the English; I can pull off a subject line in Danish, but trying to have the whole post in Danish would take me forever.

I have recently started motorcycling here in California, and own a 2007 Yamaha R6. Given how low the dollar is and the fact that prices are "sticky," it might make sense for me to send it in a ship rather than selling it here and buying another one in DK (I don't think I can afford one there... it cost me the equivalent of 30-35.000 kr. here).

But I can't figure out the import costs. I think registration and insurance are going to be the same no matter where the bike is from, so the main difference is customs and taxes. Can anybody give me a hand? I have been to skat.dk but get lost eventually (the Danish limitation gets to me again).

Thanks, and I look forward to meeting some fellow motorcyclists in DK! (I live in Aarhus)

  • #1   1. nov 2009 PS: hvis du vil svare på Dansk, bare gør det... jeg spørger hvis jeg forstår ikke.

    Tak!

  • #2   1. nov 2009 hvor længe skal du opholde dig i danmark ?

  • #3   1. nov 2009 afgift vil være mellem 52000 og 63000 kr en tilsvarende mc i danmark vil koste 90 -100000kr så det kan nok ikke betale sig

  • #4   1. nov 2009 Plus, US standards for polution are lower, so you probably won't even be able to register it in DK.

And the registration taxes are high, as mentioned...

  • #5   1. nov 2009 With the Danish taxing system you'll be just as well off selling your bike in the US and buying another one here. On top of that you'll have to do a few modification to get it registered here.

Are you going to stay here or are you just here for a period of time? If you're not here for a longer period store your bike in the US, so you have it when you return.

By the way - US drivers licences are not generally accepted here, so do yourself a favour and check it up with the police:-)

    Anyway - welcome:-)

  • #6   2. nov 2009 Magnus>>>youre a bit wrong there,,,,California has some of the worlds most strict standards concearning pollution.

Kike D>>>>If you choose to have your bike imported (which I wouldnt recommend) you will need to have at least a CoC-document with the correct data on it.

If it was me, I would buy a similar bike here in DK due to the recession you can make a bargain here.

  • #9   2. nov 2009 Thanks everyone!

It seems like it is not worth the trouble to send the bike over even now.

michael B>> hvor længe skal du opholde dig i danmark ?
Not sure... have a contract until 2012 but may be extended.

michael B>> afgift vil være mellem 52000 og 63000 kr en tilsvarende mc i danmark vil koste 90 -100000kr så det kan nok ikke betale sig
How did you find the 52-63000 kr.?

Carsten "blackbird" H>> Kike D>>>>If you choose to have your bike imported (which I wouldnt recommend) you will need to have at least a CoC-document with the correct data on it.
What's a CoC-document? (All I have is the bike's title in my name)

    >> If it was me, I would buy a similar bike here in DK due to the recession you can make a bargain here.
Thanks, might end up doing that...

  • #10   2. nov 2009 Kike D:

There is a set of rules, but in general you can calculate the Danish market price from the advertized supply. A rule og thumb is then that an imported bike will be taxed with app. 6+% og this amount.

Then you will have to pay transportation and a few changes with the lights. Environmentally I don't think there will be anything.

But no - leave your bike in The States - it's too expensive to register here

  • #11   2. nov 2009 It should have been 60% not 6+% smiley Sorry

  • #12   2. nov 2009 Hi folks, thank you all very much for the input.
I was about to call SKAT, but talked to a couple of people and everybody agrees... sell your bike and get one in Denmark. So that's what I'll do... I'll be looking for a sport bike when I arrive in Dec-Jan then.

Thanks, and keep it rubber side down!

  • #13   2. nov 2009 Hi Kike,

You can find used as well as new bikes for sale in Denmark right here:

    www.dba.dk
    www.123mc.dk
    (link fjernet)
    http://mczonen.dk/
& of cause this site too.

Prices here are just hideous, but i presume you already know that...

Ps If/when buying used always remember to check if there is any debt registered to the bike. You do so by calling "Bilbogen" at: 99 68 58 50 between 9 & 12:00 (it's free).

I hope you enjoy your stay here.

  • #14   2. nov 2009 Hi Kike

As already mentioned by several people, it's really not worth the trouble bringing your own bike. So - why not buy another R6 and see for yourself if the ones from Europe are as fast as the ones from the US? smiley

This one is the cheapest R6 2006+ that i know of:

    http://www.motorcykelgalleri.dk/html/mar_vis.asp?MarID=64455

Anyway, give me a call when you arrive in Aarhus and feel like hanging out with some fellow racers smiley

    Cheers,

    Mathias
